Curriculum Vision
At St Mary’s, our curriculum is driven by our Christian vision and the values of Confidently Me, Belonging Together and Challenged to Contribute. We provide a broad, balanced and ambitious curriculum which is designed to develop the whole child academically, socially, emotionally, physically, morally and spiritually.
Our curriculum is carefully sequenced to build knowledge, skills and understanding over time, ensuring that all pupils, including the most disadvantaged and those with additional needs, achieve well. Teachers have strong subject knowledge and use effective pedagogical approaches to support pupils in knowing more, remembering more and doing more.
We actively promote confident and independent learners. Through approaches such as Building Learning Power and our Great Learners Project, pupils are taught to be resilient, reflective and resourceful. They understand the importance of challenge and are equipped with strategies to persevere and succeed.
We foster a strong sense of belonging and inclusion, underpinned by our Christian ethos. Pupils develop positive relationships, strong moral values and respect for others. Our focus on wellbeing, including the use of evidence-based programmes, supports pupils to be emotionally secure and ready to learn.
Our curriculum is enriched through purposeful opportunities to contribute beyond the classroom. Visits, visitors, outdoor learning, extra-curricular activities and residential experiences deepen pupils’ understanding, raise aspirations and develop cultural capital. Pupils are encouraged to think critically, take responsibility and play an active role within their school and the wider community.
As a result, pupils at St Mary’s are self-assured, motivated and well-prepared for the next stage of their education and for life in modern Britain.
