Attitudes to Learning
We are very aware of the pace of change in our society today – and of the fact that we are preparing children for jobs which do not yet exist. For this reason, we actively teach them to take some responsibility for their own learning; to become aware of the different ways in which they can learn; to make connections and judge for themselves how effective they have been. In doing so, we nurture children who are Confidently Me – learners who understand themselves, take pride in their progress, and are willing to take risks in their learning. We believe this will make them powerful learners – ready to cope with whatever challenges the future will bring.
Teachers use a range of principles and initiatives to help children understand that challenge in learning, and not being able to do something straight away, is an important and valuable part of the process. This culture reflects our value of being Challenged to Contribute, where children are encouraged to persevere, think deeply, and recognise that their effort and ideas matter. They are explicitly taught strategies to help them when solving problems and are supported to reflect on which approaches have been successful, enabling them to grow in resilience and independence.
At the heart of this approach is a strong sense of community, where every child feels Belonging Together. We foster classrooms where collaboration, mutual respect, and shared success are central, ensuring that all children feel safe to express their ideas and learn from one another. This collective spirit strengthens both individual confidence and group achievement.
We believe this approach is what makes our children eager, reflective and independent learners – and it certainly makes our school a vibrant, inclusive learning community where every child is valued and empowered to thrive.
