What to do if you are feeling sad or worried?

At St Mary’s, we know that life can sometimes feel difficult and bring lots of different emotions. You might feel sad, worried, lonely, or unsure – and that is completely normal. We are here to help you, and talking about your worries can often make them feel smaller.

Confidently Me

We want you to feel safe speaking up about how you feel. You can talk to a trusted adult, such as your teacher, a member of staff, or someone at home. You could also speak to a friend or one of our wellbeing ambassadors, who are always ready to listen. If you prefer, you can write your worry down and share with a trusted adult.

Belonging Together

You are never alone at St Mary’s. We are a caring community where everyone looks out for each other. There will always be someone who will listen and help you feel safe, understood, and supported.

Challenged to Contribute

We will help you find ways to manage your worries and feel stronger. Simple things can help, such as taking deep breaths, spending time with friends, being creative, or reminding yourself, “I can do this.” Together, we will help you build the confidence and resilience to face challenges.

Remember, your feelings matter, and we are always here to help.

Ways to help yourself feel better:

Sometimes little things can help when you start to feel sad or worried:

  • Take a few slow, deep breaths

  • Spend some time with a friend

  • Draw, read, or play outside

  • Tell yourself something positive, like “I can do this” or “I am safe”

  • Remember that feelings don’t last forever
