Year Group Pages

Our curriculum at St Mary’s is underpinned by our core values of Confidently Me, Belonging Together and Challenged to Contribute, which guide both what we teach and how we teach it. Across all year groups, we are committed to providing a rich, inclusive and ambitious learning experience that enables every child to develop as a confident, independent learner, to feel a strong sense of belonging within our community, and to contribute positively to the world around them.

From the Early Years through to Year 6, our curriculum is carefully designed to ensure a clear continuum of learning, with knowledge and skills building progressively over time. Each year group builds securely on prior learning, while also responding to the needs and starting points of individual pupils. This ensures that all children, including those joining us at different stages, are supported to access the full curriculum and achieve well. There is a strong emphasis on coherence and progression, enabling pupils to deepen their understanding, apply their learning in different contexts and make meaningful connections across subjects.

Our approach balances high expectations in core subjects with a broad and enriched curriculum that includes the arts, humanities, physical education and personal development. Teaching is carefully sequenced, supported by ongoing assessment, and designed to challenge and engage all learners. Through this, we ensure that pupils not only acquire key knowledge and skills, but also develop curiosity, creativity, resilience and a lifelong love of learning.

Ultimately, our curriculum is designed to support every child’s journey through the school, ensuring continuity, progression and a strong foundation for the next stage of education. By the time pupils leave St Mary’s, they are confident, capable and well-prepared learners who embody our values and are ready to succeed in their future pathways.
