Mobile Phones, Devices and Technology in our school
At our school, we are committed to providing a calm, focused and safe learning environment that is free from digital distraction.
In line with Department for Education guidance, mobile phones are not used by pupils as part of day-to-day learning. If a child needs to bring a mobile phone to school for safety reasons when travelling to and from school, it must be handed into the school office immediately upon arrival and collected at the end of the school day. Mobile phones must not be kept in bags, pockets or classrooms.
In addition, smart watches, wearable technology, tablets, earbuds, headphones and any other personal devices with communication, recording or internet capabilities must not be used in school unless there is aSave n agreed medical or safeguarding exception.
Staff do not use personal mobile phones in front of pupils and do not use mobile phones as part of teaching and learning. Where technology is required to support education, administration or safeguarding, staff will only use school-approved and school-managed devices in accordance with our safeguarding, data protection and acceptable use policies.
Parents and carers who need to contact their child during the school day should do so through the school office. Likewise, if a pupil needs to contact home, this will be facilitated by school staff.
We believe that a mobile phone-free environment helps pupils to:
- Focus fully on learning.
- Build positive social relationships.
- Reduce distractions and interruptions.
- Promote online safety and wellbeing.
- Create a calm and supportive school culture.
Any unauthorised use of a mobile phone, wearable technology or other prohibited device will be dealt with in accordance with the school's Behaviour Policy and may result in confiscation and other appropriate sanctions.
Reasonable adjustments will be made where the use of a device is required to support a medical condition, disability or other exceptional circumstance.
We also ask that parents, carers and visitors do not use mobile phones or other electronic devices while on the school site unless prior permission has been granted by a member of the Senior Leadership Team or another authorised member of staff.
