Key Stage 2 Outcomes for Our Pupils

At St Mary's CofE Primary School, we are immensely proud of every child and celebrate success in all its forms. While Key Stage 2 test outcomes provide one measure of attainment, they can never capture the full story of a child's journey through primary school. For some pupils, simply approaching and completing the SATs tests represents a significant personal achievement, demonstrating resilience, determination and courage. We recognise that every child starts from a different place and that individual progress goes far beyond a test score.

We measure achievement not only through academic outcomes, but also through the confidence children develop, the relationships they build, the kindness they show, the contributions they make to school life and the character they demonstrate as young people. We are proud that our pupils leave St Mary's as well-rounded individuals, equipped with the knowledge, skills, values and aspirations they need for the next stage of their education and beyond.

Against this backdrop, we are delighted that our 2025 Key Stage 2 outcomes reflect the hard work, dedication and achievements of our pupils and staff. Pupils performed strongly across the core subjects of reading, writing and mathematics, achieving results above both local authority and national averages.

Strong Achievement Across the Curriculum

Pupils performed strongly across the core subjects of reading, writing and mathematics, achieving results above both local authority and national averages.

In 2025, 72% of pupils achieved the expected standard in reading, writing and mathematics combined, compared with 66% across the local authority and 62% nationally. 

We are pleased with the number of pupils achieving at greater depth, with 16% reaching the higher standard in reading, writing and mathematics, significantly above both the local authority average of 11% and the national average of 8%.

Reading Excellence

Reading continues to be a strength of the school, with pupils achieving an average reading score of 108, exceeding both the local authority average of 107 and the national average of 106.

Secure Mathematical Understanding

Pupils also performed well in mathematics, achieving an average score of 106, above the national average and in line with the local authority average.

These outcomes demonstrate our commitment to providing a high-quality education that enables all children to flourish academically and personally. We are proud that our pupils leave St Mary's CofE Primary School well prepared for the next stage of their education, equipped with strong knowledge, skills and confidence for the future
