The Primary PE and Sport Premium is additional government funding provided to improve the quality of physical education, sport and physical activity in schools, with a strong emphasis on sustainable impact and increased participation for all pupils. Schools are expected to use this funding strategically to develop staff expertise, broaden opportunities and promote long-term healthy lifestyles, demonstrating clear impact in line with national expectations.

At St Mary’s, our commitment to Confidently Me, Belonging Together, Challenged to Contribute is evident in our approach, as we ensure that every child feels confident to take part, enjoys being active and develops a sense of belonging through sport and teamwork. We prioritise inclusive, high-quality provision that supports both physical and mental wellbeing, encouraging pupils to develop resilience, cooperation and a lifelong love of healthy activity, so that all can flourish and contribute positively to the life of the school and wider community.

2025 - 2026

St Mary’s CofE Primary School effectively utilised its full £21,720 PE and Sport Premium allocation during 2025-2026 to enhance physical education, sporting opportunities and pupil participation, with no funding remaining unspent. Investment focused on extracurricular activities, equipment and resources, external coaching, staff professional development and participation in sports competitions, while targeted provision supported pupils with SEND and increased opportunities for girls in sport. The funding also contributed positively to swimming and water safety outcomes, with 90% of Year 6 pupils able to swim 25 metres competently and over 81% demonstrating effective stroke technique and self-rescue skills. Overall, the expenditure has strengthened the quality, accessibility and impact of PE and sport across the school.
