School Council
Giving Every Child a Voice at St Mary’s Primary School
At St Mary’s Primary School, our School Council plays an important role in ensuring that every child feels heard, valued and empowered to make a difference. Through regular meetings, discussions and collaborative projects, our council representatives work together to share ideas, raise concerns and celebrate successes from across the school community.
Guided by our core values, the School Council helps bring these principles to life:
- Confidently Me – We encourage all pupils to express their views with confidence. Through our strong commitment to Oracy, children develop the skills to articulate their thoughts clearly, listen respectfully and engage in meaningful dialogue.
- Belonging Together – The council represents the diverse voices of our whole school, fostering a sense of inclusion and community. Every pupil knows that their opinions matter and contribute to the shared life of St Mary’s Primary School.
- Challenged to Contribute – School Council members take responsibility for leading change, solving problems and contributing ideas that help improve our school environment for everyone.
We are also deeply committed to Hemisphere / DEIB (Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Belonging) principles, ensuring that the School Council reflects the full richness of our community at St Mary’s Primary School. We actively seek to include and represent all groups, valuing different perspectives and experiences so that decisions are fair, inclusive and meaningful.
Through this work, the School Council not only strengthens student voice but also helps every child at St Mary’s Primary School develop the confidence, empathy and leadership skills needed to shape both their school and the wider world.
