Reception
Our Reception curriculum provides a rich, engaging and carefully sequenced start to school, rooted in our values of Confidently Me, Belonging Together and Challenged to Contribute. Children are supported to develop a strong sense of self and independence as confident learners, while building positive relationships within a nurturing and inclusive environment. Through shared routines, collaborative learning and a strong focus on personal, social and emotional development, children learn what it means to belong to a community and are encouraged to contribute their ideas, creativity and voice across all areas of learning.
Learning is designed in line with Early Years Foundation Stage principles, with a strong emphasis on play-based, experiential learning that reflects children’s interests while ensuring clear progression in knowledge and skills. High-quality adult interactions, purposeful provision and well-sequenced teaching in areas such as early reading, writing and mathematics enable children to develop secure foundations for future learning. Our curriculum is broad and balanced, covering all areas of learning from literacy and mathematics to expressive arts, understanding the world and physical development, and it is carefully structured across the year to build knowledge over time.
Our curriculum is ambitious, coherently planned and implemented, and responsive to children’s starting points. Ongoing assessment informs teaching, enabling staff to provide appropriate challenge and support so that all children make strong progress. As a result, children leave Reception as confident, capable learners who are well prepared for Key Stage 1, both academically and personally.
