Year 2

Our Year 2 curriculum represents a natural continuation of the carefully sequenced provision established in Year 1, further embedding our core values of Confidently Me, Belonging Together and Challenged to Contribute. Building on prior learning, children are supported to grow in independence, confidence and resilience as they approach the end of Key Stage 1. The curriculum remains broad, balanced and ambitious, with high-quality texts in English, a progressive mathematics programme and a rich range of subjects including science, computing, the arts, humanities and physical education. Learning is thoughtfully sequenced to deepen knowledge and skills over time, while encouraging curiosity, creativity and active participation so that all children feel empowered to contribute meaningfully to their learning.

There is a clear emphasis on consolidation and progression, ensuring that key knowledge and skills introduced in Year 1 are revisited, applied and extended. Children engage with increasingly complex content across subjects, such as developing mathematical understanding through work on number, calculation, measures and problem solving, and expanding their scientific knowledge through topics including materials, plants and living things. Opportunities to explore the wider world through history and geography, alongside creative experiences in art, music and design, ensure that learning remains engaging and relevant.

This continued approach aligns with expectations by providing a coherently planned and well-implemented curriculum that builds cumulatively on prior learning. Teaching is responsive and informed by ongoing assessment, ensuring that all children are appropriately challenged and supported to achieve well. By the end of Year 2, pupils are confident, independent learners with secure foundational knowledge and skills, well prepared for the transition into Key Stage 2.
